Strand is building the intelligence layer for how companies understand their data. We connect every tool in your stack into a living knowledge graph and let anyone query it in plain language. No exports, no dashboards, no waiting on analysts. Just answers. We are a small team that has moved fast without cutting corners. Thousands of teams rely on Strand to make decisions every day. We are growing because the problem is real and the product works.
About the Role
The infrastructure underneath Strand is what makes everything else possible. Every natural language query, every real-time sync, every anomaly alert traces back to the systems our backend team builds and maintains. This role sits at the core of that.
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who thinks in systems, cares about reliability, and wants to work on problems that do not have obvious answers. You will work directly on Pathways, our data pipeline engine, and the APIs that power Cortex, our knowledge graph. You will own meaningful parts of the stack from day one.
This is not a ticket-driven role. We work in small project teams where engineers have full context, real ownership, and direct input on what gets built next.
What You Will Work On
Design and build the infrastructure that keeps 240+ integrations synced in real time
Improve the performance and reliability of Cortex, our knowledge graph engine
Own API design for both internal services and the Nucleus developer toolkit
Contribute to how we think about scalability, observability, and fault tolerance
Work closely with ML engineers on the infrastructure that powers Ask and Pulse
Help define engineering standards and review the work of peers
What We Are Looking For
6 or more years of backend engineering experience, with at least 2 in a senior capacity
Deep familiarity with distributed systems and the tradeoffs they require
Strong experience with data pipelines, event-driven architectures, or graph databases
Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, or Go
A track record of building systems that hold up under real-world conditions
Clear written communication. Most of our coordination is async and context travels through writing
An instinct for when to ship and when to slow down
What We Offer
Competitive salary and meaningful equity
Fully remote with no required timezone
25 days paid vacation plus local public holidays
5,000 USD annual learning and development budget
Home office stipend to set up a workspace that works for you
Health, dental, and vision coverage
Annual team offsite
Extended equity exercise window
